A vehicle that was brought to the world in 1996, that may be one of the best-handling production roadsters you can find anywhere, is the Porsche Boxster. The Boxster has kept its status as a fast vehicle with a maximum of power while experiencing very few interior or horsepower changes since its introduction. With their popular versions, Porsche usually maintains the same physical appearance for an extended period of time.
In 2005, Porsche announced an even more powerful second-generation Boxster which just didn't stray from their normal design process. Similar to a Porsche Spyder, it also has the pair of seats along with six cylinders and a mid-engine that it had in earlier models. The new Boxster's design and electronics tend to be more than half the same as the 911 Carrera. The torque modification and added horsepower give the 2005 more muscle than its 2004 version. The acceleration and top rated capability made the 2005 Boxster S a nearly exact equivalent of the more costly Porsche 911 Carrera.
No other car can match up to the distinct sound resembling a trombone that is emanated with the Boxster's exhaust. It is really an astounding fact because the engine is a miniature version of the Carrera's six-cylinder. Incorporating a six-speed transmission is discretionary as the Boxster typically comes with a five-speed manual transmission. Additionally, it may offer the five-speed Porsche-designed Tiptronic automatic transmission system installed, which is an excellent option. A more recent inclination in which automatic vehicles are shifted physically has made this possible. Even though Boxster can be described as a top quality vehicle inside and out, it is by no means a luxurious car.
Originally, critics accused the vehicle of giving the impression of a budget car, but the interior now has a more upscale look. The center console has been given an updated overall look with simulated titanium paneling and a modified gearshift. The seats in the more recent model are nicer with extra support and an optimal body shape. With two trunks, one in the rear of the car and a larger one beneath the front hood, transporting baggage is a non-issue. The electric convertible top which will easily close and open at speeds up to 30 mph is one of the more enjoyable features of the Boxster. Heated glass makes up the rear window and the top is constructed from three layers of sound-muffling padded cloth that will hold up in all sorts of weather.
Referred to as a mid-engine car, the Boxster's six-cylinder engine is usually found to the backside of the seats just before getting to the rear axle. You won't find the engine underneath the hood because it is not really there. To look at the engine, you will have to lift the car so you can get under it. A more even weight distribution is a welcome benefit of the car's engine being situated near the center of the car. That is why the Porshe Boxster handles so well.
